Our Policy Regarding Pro Bono Work

We are a private law firm, and therefore, naturally, we have to charge for legal services that we provide.  As Abraham Lincoln said, "A lawyer's time and advice are his stock in trade."  In other words, we have to be paid for our time and advice.  However, we recognize that just because you have a need for legal services does not mean that you have the money to pay for them!

Although our overhead prohibits us from helping everyone who visits us but cannot pay an attorney fee, we do have a policy of encouraging our attorneys to provide pro bono (free to the consumer) legal services when possible.  In fact, our attorneys normally are encouraged to undertake a couple of pro bono cases per year.  While that may not seem like much, it may add up to hundreds of hours per year and several people receiving legal representation from the Keystone Law Firm attorneys who could not otherwise afford it.

We have a procedure for pro bono work that begins with the client making an appointment to meet with our attorneys.  Prospective pro bono clients must go through the same procedure as all other clients so that we can check for conflicts of interest.  While we may charge a small consultation fee for that meeting, we can discuss payment options including pro bono status when we meet.  Whether we can help you at no cost to you depends on a number of factors such as your income, the type of case, the amount of work to be done and its complexity, the out-of-pocket cost to us, if any, and the like.  But, make that appointment--there is no guarantee but we may be able to help you for no or little money.

Please contact us if you believe we can be of help to you.  We look forward to discussing your options!
